Budd Introduces Federal Employee Student Debt Transparency Act

Apr 26, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) introduced the Federal Employee Student Debt Transparency Act. He was joined by Sens. Mike Braun (R-IN) and Roger Marshall (R-KS).

The bill would require all political appointees and Senior Executive Service employees to disclose balances for all federal student loans. This would apply to employees that have a direct role in the political and policy functions of the Biden administration.

Press reports have suggested that White House staffers hold more than $4.7 million in student debt.

The legislative text of the bill is HERE.

Sen. Budd said in a statement:

“The Biden administration’s student loan cancellation is an affront to the millions of borrowers who responsibly repaid their loan balances, as well as the millions of taxpayers who don’t have a college degree and would be forced to subsidize the loans of others. The Biden administration clearly overreached its executive authority to cancel student loan debt, and taxpayers deserve to know if the Biden political team has a conflict of interest as to why they were so willing to cross clear legal boundaries to pursue a student loan bailout.”
