Budd Applauds House Inclusion of Plan to Expand Workforce Pell Grants in Budget Reconciliation

Apr 30, 2025 | News

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Senate lead on the Promoting Employment and Lifelong Learning (PELL) Act, applauded the House Committee on Education and the Workforce for including provisions from his PELL Act in budget reconciliation. The PELL Act was the original framework for the workforce Pell Grant expansion that the House included yesterday in its reconciliation bill, the Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan.

“Americans deserve access to affordable, flexible education pathways that lead to real opportunity. That’s why I was proud to lead the PELL Act in the Senate, so students have more options to prepare for the demands of today’s workforce.

Now, with the House Committee on Education and the Workforce including provisions in the budget reconciliation package to expand Pell Grants for high-quality, skills-based programs, we are taking the necessary strides to ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed.

I look forward to championing the inclusion of the PELL Act in the Senate’s reconciliation legislation as we work to close the skills gap and strengthen the future of our economy and workforce,” said Senator Budd.

Background

During the 118th Congress, Sen. Budd led the Senate companion to the original framework of this workforce-focused Pell Grant initiative.
