Budd Applauds FEMA Approval of $58.8+ Million in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Funds for Helene Recovery in WNC

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R-N.C.) applauded the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) recent announcement that more than $58.8+ million in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds for buyouts related to Hurricane Helene recovery projects in Western North Carolina had been approved.

Now that the Department of Homeland Security has been reopened, the leadership team at FEMA is working hard to continue to push badly needed Helene aid out the door and back to the people of Western North Carolina,” said Senator Budd. “Ensuring families who suffered loss of property can rebuild or relocate is critical to help our mountain communities protect themselves against future disasters. I will continue my efforts to engage with local, state, and federal officials to make sure funds continue to reach those who have had their lives upended by this disaster.”

Below is a chart detailing the breakdown of funds that have been approved. FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the State. It is the State’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipients receive these awards.
